Pear Trees, are well suited to the UK climate as they can easily tolerate low tempratures, this makes them incredibly popular.  They can also be decorative, displaying beautiful blossom before fruiting.
 
There are thousands of varieties of apple trees, and it is best to buy them from a nursery as growing from pip will not give you the same kind of pear that the parent tree produced.
 
When to Plant Pear Trees: any time during winter or early spring (Best being Oct or Nov)
When to Harvest Pear Trees:  This is dependent on the variety
 
How to grow Pear Trees:
 
Trees will grow in all types of soil conditions, however shallow or poor draining soil should be improved before planting.
 
Dig a hole around 2ft by 2ft in a sunny location, add manure or compost to the bottom of the hole.  Place in the tree and back fill the whole.
 
Apply a general fertilizer in early spring.
 
Prune regularly to keep the tree from growing out of control.
