Strawberry Plants are an incredible versatile plant that can grow in almost any sunny position. They can be grown outdoors, indoors and in pots, which makes them suitable for any gardener.
When to plant strawberrys: Autumn or late spring
When to harvest strawberrys: Dependant on variaty
How to plant strawberrys:
Plant at intervals of 14 inches apart. Dig wholes appr 6 inches deep and layer the bottom with 2 inches of well rotted manure or compost. Place the plant in the hole and backfill. Ensure the crown of the plant is level with the soil, if its too low rot could set in, if its too high the roots could dry out.
How to grow strawberrys:
Annually in early spring add a layer of mulch or straw to prevent slug damage and the surface from drying out. This will also keep the weeds at bay.
During fruiting water regularly with a good fertilizer such as a tomato fertilizer.
After cropping remove any deadleaves from the plant.
Strawberry plants generally will need to be replaced every 3 to 4 years. When replacing the plants it is a good idea to change their location to prevent diseases building up, see crop rotation.
For indoor plants, you may need to pollinate the plant as insects wont be able to get to them.
