Petrol Lawnmower or Electric Lawnmower that is the question:
Petrol lawnmowers clearly have the advantage of being able to go where no electric lawnmower can. You arent restricted with a need to have an electric supply which gives you mobility. This is clearly an advantage if you have a large garden.
Petrol lawnmowers also tend to be more powerful than electric ones, this can improve the finish your lawn gets and cut down on the lenght of time that it takes to cut your grass.
The downside is they are usually more expensive, they require more servicing, and are heavier.
If you have a small garden or budget, then go electric.
If you have a large garden or need to use your lawnmower in more remote areas then go petrol.
Rotary or Cylinder
Now some might say here what on earth do you mean, these are the terms used to describe the way the blades are positioned and the cutting types.
Imagine a car wheel turning, if its a rotary blade then the car wheel will be on its side when it cuts, but a cylinder will be upright.
Cylinder lawnmowers typically give a better cut than rotary, this is because cylinders slice the grass where as the rotary motion tends to hit it.
On the downside, cylinders are more expensive, are usually much larger and heavier.
Push or self propelled
This feature basically means do you want the lawnmower to move forward by you pushing it (ie push lawnmower) or do you want it to have a driving mechanism and move forward on its on (ie self propelled lawnmower).
With heavier lawnmowers cleary self drive is going to be a great advantage, however this might not be the case with lighter ones. You also have to take into account your own fitness level when deciding, and of course, budget comes into it Self propelled lawnmowers are upto a 3rd more expensive than push lawnmowers.
