Many of us in the uk have lawns in either the front or rear garden, and we all want to achieve that newly turfed look with lush green grass, below are some tips on how to achieve that look.
How to Cut Grass:
Try to mow the lawn in the evening when the sun is not too hot, as this will stop the grass blades from drying out at the point where they have just been cut. This will help the grass repair itself and maintain it dark green colour.
Never cut more than a 3rd of the grass at a time as this can impact the colour of the grass and in some cases kill it off.
Get your lawnmower serviced annual and sharpen the blades as this will ensure minimum damage to the grass when it is being cut. Try to buy the best quality lawnmower you can afford, we have a selection of discount lawnmowers.
Feeding the Grass:
Apply a grass fertiliser during the growing season, this will help develop strong roots and good colour. Some fertilisers also act as a weedkiller eliminating mosses and other weeds that compete with your grass for nutrients.
In the autumn mow the grass with the box off so that grass clippings fall loosely, this will provide a mulch over winter and add nutrients to the ground when it has decomposted.
Additional Maintenance:
Use an lawn aerator to allow the grass to breathe, the grass and roots need this so they do not rot if the ground gets waterlogged.
If you have a clay or heavy soil sprinkel sand over the grass annually, over time this will help breakup the soil allowing for better drainage.
Use a lawn scarifyer to pull out dead grass, weeds and moss, this will help your grass by removing competition and giving your grass more room to grow.
