Garlic, is increasing in popularity for home growers, this is because of its many culinary uses, but also because gardeners are realising that it is relatively easy to grow this mediterranian vegetable.

When to Sow Garlic: November to Early March
When to Harvest Garlic: Mid August

How to Plant Garlic:

Treat the area you are going to use with some fertilizer a month or so before planting.

Break up the garlic bulb into individual cloves and plant by pushing into the soil just under the surface, space the cloves appr 6 inches apart with rows 10 inches apart.

Garlics needs to be kept weed free as they do not block out the weeds by creating losts of shade, therefore keep on top of the weeding.

How to Harvest Garlic:

The leaves on the garlic will turn yellow when the garlic is ready to be pulled, this will be mid august.  Carefully lift the bulbs with a fork and lay them on the ground so the air can get to them to harden the skins.

The garlic can then be taken to store where they can keep for 6 to 12 months.
